Full Stack Developer - Flexible Location

The United Workers Union is seeking a talented and experienced full stack developer, on an 18-month contract. The role can be based in any State in Australia.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a multi-disciplinary innovation team in the Union, focused on members’ digital experience. This is a new role with the opportunity to contribute to growing the union and improving the digital experience of members.

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and building new full-stack web applications. They will work closely with a Product Manager, other developers, designers, and stakeholders to build and iterate an authenticated member servicing web application for 150,000 members, alongside other web development as required.

United Workers Union web experiences are currently built on WordPress, so experience with WordPress is preferred, although as this is a greenfield project, alternative frameworks would be considered.

This work can be done from any capital city in Australia, however candidates living in Sydney will be highly regarded. You’ll be joining a small team and will be able to influence the technical decisions of the organisation and work closely with stakeholders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work collaboratively with the team to understand user needs and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Design, test, build and deploy user-friendly, authenticated, member experience web applications with high-quality, easily maintainable code.
  • Work alongside other developers to build API connections with our member database systems.
  • Produce efficient, reusable, and functional code in a variety of languages and platforms.
  • Develop automated testing suites and perform other quality assurance procedures.
  • Collaborate and communicate with team members to engineer the best solutions to problems and ensure the best outcomes for union members.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Proficiency in PHP web frameworks preferred, with experience in other common languages considered.
  • Experience with front-end technologies, such as JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3
  • Experience with RESTful APIs
  • Familiarity with WCAG 2.1 AA
  • Experience working collaboratively within a digital product team.
  • Strong communication skills
  • A commitment to United Workers Union values and purpose.

To perform this job, you will also be required to have or obtain and maintain:

  • Immunisation against COVID-19 or have a medical exemption.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE

  • Experience building full-stack authenticated member servicing web applications, or similar, in a digital product team.

REMUNERATION

An attractive remuneration package will be offered to the successful applicant, which will include:

  • $90,000 to $140,000 per annum
  • 16% superannuation
  • 6 weeks annual leave plus 25% leave loading
