About the position

This is a contract position to 30 June 2022, with a possibility of extension.

We are looking for an exceptional and enthusiastic Research Officer who will be responsible for real time research across the SecondBite network and beyond to deliver a more targeted and appropriate response to the needs of the food insecure across Australia, enabling effective and efficient responses to the challenges facing SecondBite in ‘real time’. 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and implement research and assess future trends in food insecurity in Australia. 
  • Conduct an environmental analysis of the food rescue and relief sector including evidence-based research across Australia into food insecurity, food relief demand and supply.
  • Identify and implement methods of early identification of changes in food insecurity and assessment of future trends to enable SecondBite to respond to needs as they arise.
  • Develop forecasting / predictive models for food relief demand and supply.
  • Develop, manage and evaluate surveys across both SecondBite recipient agencies (and their clients) and external parties as required. 
  • Use research insights to inform strategic and operational impact.
  • Produce written materials for a variety of audiences (media, internal and external stakeholders) as required.

About the person:

The successful applicant will:

  • Have a minimum of two years’ experience in a similar role
  • Tertiary qualifications in a related field or the equivalent level of experience 
  • Empathic understanding of the issues surrounding food insecurity  
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Skilled in qualitative and quantitative research, analytical and evaluations techniques
  • Report writing skills adaptable for various audiences 
  • Project management skills
  • A strong knowledge of Microsoft office suite and survey platforms
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as part of the wider team
  • Ability to build strong relationships and communicate well at all levels
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail

The salary for this position is: $85,000 + super + salary packaging available
