South-East Monash Legal Service is currently seeking a client intake/admin officer to join our team and support the community of South-Eastern Melbourne to access free legal advice and representation.
The role is based between our two locations at Springvale and Narre Warren on a part-time contract basis from 9am to 5pm.
Established in 1973, South-East Monash Legal Service (SMLS) is a community legal centre that provides free legal assistance to people experiencing disadvantage in South-East Melbourne. SMLS aims to empower and support members of the community to understand and make use of the law and the legal system to protect their rights and to increase their awareness of their legal responsibilities.
Working with vulnerable and disadvantaged community members, South-East Monash Legal Service contributes to a fair and just society by:
SMLS provides legal information, advice and case work including representation for people experiencing disadvantage on a range of legal matters, such as family law and family violence, employment law, debt and fines, civil litigation, wills, power of attorney, and tenancy.
SMLS is committed to advocacy and social change. We have contributed to reforms in family violence laws and practices, access to civil procedure reforms, discrimination towards young community members in their use of public space and their interactions with the criminal justice system, as well as in highlighting the needs of migrants, refugees and people seeking asylum, particularly unaccompanied humanitarian minors and women escaping family violence.
The Intake Officer acts as a critical enabling role for SMLS by providing effective intake service and support for SMLS client services.
The Intake Officer role is responsible for providing excellent customer service to SMLS clients, whether through telephone, reception or email-based contact. They will ensure accurate client information is entered into the client management system, provide general service information, conduct conflict checks, and book clients into the most appropriate clinic appointments.
The Intake Officer will also be responsible for providing efficient and high-quality support to SMLS staff, law students and volunteers in service delivery.
You are passionate about helping people, delivering great service and getting things right. You have experience in customer-facing positions, ideally in client intake roles, and possess strong computer skills. You have great attention to detail and stay calm when interacting with people facing highly stressful situations.
You are comfortable working with all members of the community, including people from non-English speaking backgrounds and people from highly disadvantaged backgrounds. You are respectful, friendly and compassionate and you’re able to stay focused on getting the task done without rushing our clients.
You are social-justice-minded and are looking for a part time role that contributes positively to communities in South-Eastern Melbourne.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged to apply.
You’ll be well supported in a positive, high performing team to deliver client facing services and support for our team of lawyers, students and community development staff.
The salary is competitive (SCHCADS Award Level 3 plus superannuation) and generous salary packaging options are available.
