THE ROLE:

The Communications and Engagement Project Officer will be a vital member of the Communications and Engagement team at SMCT.

The officer will play a pivotal role in supporting the management and execution of diverse projects, such as reconciliation, gender impact assessments, and community-facing initiatives.

Reporting directly to the Senior Communications Lead, the Communications and Engagement Project Officer will contribute to fostering cultural change within the organisation. This role involves collaborating with stakeholders across the organisation to provide strategic and practical communication support.

Responsibilities include:

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of strategic priorities for the Communications and Engagement team, encompassing strategies, programs, projects, and events.
  • Design communication materials and assets for both internal and external audiences, distributed across multiple channels.
  • Plan, execute, and oversee projects under the guidance of the Senior Communications Lead, including the Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and Gender Impact Assessments (GIAs).
  • Document and streamline communication deliverables' processes and work flows.
  • Maintain records, generate insights, and compile reports on communication activities and channels.
  • Prepare submissions, reports, and presentations as required.
  • Manage relevant external suppliers and contractor relationships.
  • Provide content development and strategic communication guidance for external communications.
  • Create compelling content, ensuring message and brand consistency through effective storytelling, editing, and delivery.
  • Cultivate positive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders to advance strategic priorities.

ABOUT YOU:

To be considered for this role you will need Tertiary qualifications or equivalent professional experience in the field of communications, engagement, public relations, writing or related industry. In addition, you will need:

  • Demonstrated experience in reconciliation or diversity, equity, and inclusion campaigns.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and networking skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate outcomes.
  • Proven project planning and management experience.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting.
  • Flexibility to work weekends and after hours for internal and community/industry events.
