  • Location: Brisbane office
  • Hours: Five days per week (38 hours per week). Flexibility in working outside standard office hours will regularly be required
  • Responsible to: QCC Director
  • Term of employment: 6 month contract, likely to be extended depending on project success, with 2 month probationary period
  • Remuneration: Equivalent to $62,742-$72,360 annual salary dependant on experience, plus 9.5% superannuation and 17.5% holiday leave loading

The Role

The Climate Mobiliser’s goal is to get thousands of people taking action for climate. They will work with our Climate team to engage people to participate in QCC’s campaign for Climate Action Now and to Power Up Queensland to replace our coal fired power stations with 100% renewable energy.

Responsibilities:

  1. Implement mobilisation tactics to engage people to spread the “climate action now” message by putting up signs, stickers and taking action online. This includes utilising SMS or or CRM systems to contact large numbers of supporters, and provide individualised responses.
  2. Assist with recruiting, identifying and supporting volunteers to lead other supporters to take action.
  3. Ensure mobilisation activity is accurately tracked and recorded.
  4. Work collaboratively in cross-movement alliances to deliver tactics (with guidance from the Power Up Queensland team)
  5. Collaborate with the Supporter Engagement Officer to engage people in large scale mobilisation tactics
  6. Distribute resources to volunteers, including by driving.
  7. Assist with the preparation and distribution of mobilisation support and training resources including toolkits and step-by-step guides.
  8. Observe the safe working practices and as far as you are able, protect your own and others’ health and safety
  9. Other duties as requested by their line manager.

Selection criteria

  1. Mobilisation or volunteer engagement skills: Significant experience in engaging and mobilising people to take action and understanding of participatory campaigns
  2. Communication skills: Experience writing clear and concise content. Confident speaking on the phone and assisting to facilitate group meetings. Must be comfortable approaching people
  3. Teamwork: Cooperates and works well with others.
  4. Integrity: Works effectively with a moderate degree of autonomy and accountability. Self motivated and can demonstrate initiative.
  5. Interpersonal skills: relates well to all kinds of people from different backgrounds; builds appropriate rapport; listens and uses diplomacy and tact.
  6. Confidence and experience in using or quickly learning digital collaboration or engagement tools, like Google Docs, Nationbuilder, systems to send SMS or email,
  7. Ability to quickly learn, test and troubleshoot new digital tools.
  8. Current Drivers License. Own vehicle is strongly preferable.
