If you have said yes, this role could be for you! Parks Victoria are looking for a Land Use and Statutory Planning Officer to work on a diverse range of environmental policy, land use and statutory planning matters and projects across the Melbourne Region.

About the role:  

In this role you will be working with teams from across Parks Victoria, other state government agencies, local governments and community to contribute to key projects that ensure the protection and enhancement of parklands and habitat for future generations across the Melbourne Region.

The role covers metro, regional and National Parks across Melbourne Region from the western grasslands near Werribee to the catchments of the Yarra and Dandenong Ranges. Within the growth areas, the role will work with state agencies and local governments to set up key new metro parks for habitat protection and social amenity. Working in inner urban areas like Albert Park, the role is to aid the delivery of programs around open space and community sport planning. In the east of the Region, the role will work on planning scheme amendments and park interface treatments to improve Parks Victoria's management and facilities.

A key aspect of the role is to review existing legislation and policy and provide advice on environmental strategies and strategic land use within or applying to the Parks Victoria estate for both National and Regional Parks. A vital element of the role is to develop and maintain strong communication and relationships with a variety of organisations and individuals to contribute to projects across the Melbourne Region. We are seeking applicants with a strong understanding of different environmental strategies, policies and legislation and how they interact with public land management and the Parks Victoria estate. Being a confident communicator is key to this role, with the ability to interpret and communicate legislation to people with varied levels of understanding.

We’re looking for someone with:

  • A tertiary qualification relating to Planning, Natural Resource Management or Environmental Science and/or equivalent experience in a similar field is desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience in provision of expert and technical advice and support, particularly demonstrating an understanding of land use and statutory planning matters.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of environmental, land use and statutory planning, procedural requirements and legislation.
  • Demonstrated experience in analytical problem solving.
  • Demonstrated effective stakeholder management experience.
