Family & Domestic Violence Worker (Identified)

Narang Bir-Rong Aboriginal Corporation
  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Identified position

About us

Narang Bir-rong Aboriginal Corporation (NBAC) is an ever expanding organisation with a strong focus on making a change for the Aboriginal community.

We provide Aboriginal specific out-of-home care, family support and family preservation services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people and their families in Sydney, South West Sydney, Eastern Sydney, Northern Sydney, Western Sydney, Nepean Blue Mountains and connected areas.

Our workplace culture is second to none in the sector and based on our five core values. Those values are: connection, empowerment, consistency, belonging and confidentiality.

These are fundamental to everything we do.

Unlike most organisations, where core values are just a plaque on the wall, our core values play a big part in how we hire, train, and develop our employees.

As a Family and Domestic Violence Worker your primary job purpose is to provide culturally appropriate support, intervention and advocacy for Aboriginal children and families experiencing family and domestic violence. You will work closely with vulnerable individuals, families and their caseworkers to ensure their safety and well-being, with a specific focus on protecting children from harm.

Your role will involve engaging with Aboriginal children and families who are affected by family and domestic violence, establishing trusting relationships, and conducting comprehensive assessments to determine their needs and level of risk. You will work collaboratively with the families and caseworkers to develop and implement safety plans, providing practical and emotional support throughout the process.

In addition to direct client work, you will actively contribute to raising awareness about family and domestic violence within the community and promoting preventive measures. This may include delivering education programs, facilitating support groups and advocating for improved services and resources for Aboriginal individuals and families affected by violence. By addressing the root causes and impacts of family and domestic violence, your work will contribute to breaking the cycle of intergenerational trauma and promoting healing within the community.

Through your dedication, cultural sensitivity, and expertise in family and domestic violence, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and protection of Aboriginal children and families, empowering them to build violence-free lives and nurturing environments for their children.
