About Us

Western Sydney Community Legal Centre Limited operates from multiple locations across Western Sydney, including Parramatta, Harris Park, Rooty Hill and Windsor. WSCLC  Limited provides free legal advice and other legal and related services to disadvantaged people in the Western Sydney area. It operates a generalist legal practice and specialist legal services including the Parramatta Community Justice Clinic, Student Legal Services Western Sydney University, Home Building Advocacy Service, Aboriginal Legal Access Program and a Clinical Placement Program.

A number of community programs including Western Sydney Tenants’ Service, Children’s Court Assistance Scheme, Central West Contact Service, and Parramatta Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service operate under the auspices of WSCLC Limited.

WSCLC Limited was formed as the result of the amalgamation of Macquarie Legal Centre, Mt Druitt and Area Community Legal Centre and Hawkesbury Nepean Community Legal Centre in June 2016.

WSCLC Limited was formed to ensure the sustainability of a community legal service for the people of Western Sydney and with the aim of facilitating the cost effective and efficient targeting and delivery of legal services to people who have the greatest legal needs, including people experiencing or at risk of family violence.

About this Role

The Family Advocacy and Support Services Worker provides a high quality, trauma-informed services to women affected by family violence. The FASS worker is based in Parramatta but will also be required to travel Newcastle, Wollongong and Sydney Federal Courts to cover these registries when needed.

Being a woman is a genuine occupational qualification for this position under Section 31 of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act, 1977.

A current Working with Children Check is a requirement of this position.

This position is funded till 30 June 2019.

Selection Criteria for this Position

  • Sound understanding of the dynamics of the family violence and its disproportionate impact upon women and children
  • Excellent client management skills including an ability to work with clients in trauma-informed way;
  • Understanding of the legal process as it relates to Commonwealth family law, State family violence and State child protection jurisdictions as well as related social welfare needs;
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a multidisciplinary team;
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with key partners, particularly Legal Aid NSW duty lawyers, FASS-Support Service 2 for men, Family Law Courts registry, security and child dispute services staff as well as judicial officers, other service providers in each registry, Legal Aid NSW's Dispute Resolution Unit and appropriate local support services;
  • Good oral and written communication skills;
  • Computer literacy including an understanding of database systems
  • Ability to travel to registries in when required;

Remuneration is based on SCHCADS Award 2010, Level 4, pay point negotiable 

($36.57 per hour - $39.43 per hour)
