The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health (IUIH) leads the development, planning and delivery of comprehensive primary health care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in South East Queensland.
The Preventative Health team is responsible for developing and implementing strategies aimed at addressing the risk factors for chronic disease in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Deadly Choices is arguably Australia’s strongest Indigenous created brand that encourages Indigenous people to be healthy role models for family, friends and broader community networks.
We have 2 roles available:
- Located in Redland region
- Located in Goodna region
About the Role?
As a Deadly Choices FIT Program Officer you will be responsible for leading the promotion and delivery of DC FIT program. Also, with this program you will also deliver other Deadly Choices programs which include health education, promotion, and preventative activities.
- Deliver DC FIT or equivalent programs into your community, schools, and other local stakeholder organisations
- Facilitate yarning sessions, focusing on goal setting, nutrition, physical activity, mental health, social support, sleep, hygiene, harmful substances, alcohol, smoking cessation and access and awareness to CCHS’s.
- Distribute health information materials and support participants in making healthy lifestyle choices
- Promote CCHS services and refer participants for Aboriginal Health Checks for clinical advice for chronic diseases as appropriate
About You?
- Certificate IV in Fitness (or higher)
- Current Blue Card (working with children and young people)
- Current First Aid and CPR Certificate.
- Current C Class Drivers Licence (Qld)
- Ability to travel across the designated region as required
Desirable, but not mandatory:
- Previous experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and /or communities
