The Role

GreenCollar is looking for an enthusiastic, full time Project Technician to join our Science, Research & Technical Team in Sydney, or Cairns. Reporting to an MRV Coordinator, the Project Technician will work closely with the Assessment, Reporting, Monitoring and GIS teams to ensure the on-time delivery of project assessments and reports across the range of GreenCollar’s project initiatives in regulatory and voluntary environmental markets.

Role Description

Working under the close supervision of an MRV Coordinator the general responsibilities of the role will
include:

  • Tracking, monitoring, and reporting on the status of projects including;
  • Undertake modelling for Emission Reduction Fund and Reef Credit projects using ecological modelling tools such as FullCAM, RMT, SavBAT, P2R Projector, MUSIC and others
  • Compile project abatement accounts
  • Compile assessment documents for both internal and external stakeholders
  • Compile project information into abatement reports packages
  • Draft and review offsets reports packages
  • Assist in the compilation of monitoring data and draft monitoring documents for both internal and external stakeholders
  • Carry out data processing and QA/QC within MySQL database ensuring adherence to internal and external quality standards
  • Assist with project verification and audits
  • Field surveying when required, often in remote locations
  • Assist with adapting workflow protocols and procedures in a changing environment to complete projects on time and to budget

Skills and experience

  • Science background / Tertiary degree
  • MySQL experience
  • GIS experience (ArcGIS, QGIS, Google Earth)
  • Understanding of relevant agricultural industries (eg. sugar cane, bananas, grazing)
  • Knowledge of Great Barrier Reef catchments and water quality targets
  • Unrestricted Class C driver’s licence and ability to confidently drive manual vehicles
  • Ability to work away from home during field trips when required
  • Desire to work outdoors, to work hard, and to be accepting of all weather conditions and terrain
  • General business knowledge to plan, organise and allocate resources, procedures, and timing to carry out responsibilities
  • High attention to detail
  • Ability to follow standardised protocols and procedures
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional communications skills, both written and oral
  • Highly organised and motivated
  • Willingness to learn
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • A passion for the natural environment and sustainability
  • Positive can-do attitude and the ability to work well both independently and in a team
