An exciting opportunity exists for a dynamic and experienced Team Leader and Mental Health Clinician to join the headspace Dandenong and Narre Warren service.

The headspace Schools Services Team leader will oversee the effective functioning of a number of co-located headspace clinical and wellbeing staff within the Dandenong/Casey/Cardinia catchment. This incorporates a range of roles and disciplines including psychologists, youth workers, wellbeing staff and mental health nurses. The role will provide clinical leadership and ensure that the school-placed roles provide effective services for partner schools as well as ensuring mutual integration and support with the headspace services at the centres Dandenong and Narre Warren.

The role will provide leadership in the respective management, clinical accountability, and on-going development of staff and programs associated with headspace services that are co-located in secondary schools. This includes a diverse range of services that will improve the physical and mental health of young people.

This role requires both expertise as a mental health clinician as well as an interest and expertise in delivering integrated mental health services within a secondary school context. The role will also in collaboration with the Centre Manager to develop innovative service and funding models to position the team for future growth and sustainability.

To be successful in this role you will be degree qualified in Social Sciences, Psychology, Social Work or a related discipline. Ideally you will also hold registration with a professional association.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Providing effective clinical leadership and management of your team, including but not limited to conducting performance reviews, coaching, mentoring, development of staff capabilities etc
  • Provide practical and strategic guidance pertaining to the delivery of headspace Dandenong and Narre Warren school services
  • Design and implement strategies to enhance headspace school services integration to centres Dandenong and Narre Warren
  • Provide assessment and treatment of young people with mental health problems
  • Actively lead a headspace collaborative initiative external to the School Services stream

You will also have:

  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Highly developed communication skills both written and verbal
  • Ability to effectively problem solve and negotiate especially with young people in the early stages of seeking help
  • Demonstrated skills at managing multiple stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to enhance service integration within a complex service system
  • Thorough understanding of the mental health and broader service system
  • Demonstrated ability to strategically plan within a complex health funding environment
