The Diplomacy Training Program (DTP) is looking for a highly motivated and organised individual to contribute to its work promoting children’s rights and building the capacity to implement the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). Commitment, initiative, teamwork, and a willingness to learn are as important to this role as experience. There will be opportunities to help grow the program, and to contribute to other parts of DTP’s work for human rights.

Position description

Working closely with DTP’s Communications and Office Coordinator, along with DTP’s Executive Director, the CRC Team, other staff members and interns and volunteers, the role will involve providing support to coordinate, organise and develop the child rights capacity building training program in Australia and internationally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the organisation and delivery of Child Rights Workshops and Training Programs around Australia, including organising travel, venues, preparing program documents and maintaining accurate records.
  • Assist in delivery of DTP’s CRC Webinar series
  • Program communications and relationships with key stakeholders in civil society and government
  • Assist in Program Strategy and Development
  • Financial, including assist with preparation of program budgets, program spending and preparation of program financial reports in accordance with funding requirements
  • Other tasks consistent with the purpose of the role and DTP’s work as directed, and consistent with working in a small and mutually supportive team environment

Selection criteria:

Essential:

  • Strong organisational skills, and ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities
  • Strong communication skills for email, telephone and personal contact with partner organisations, course applicants and participants, alumni donors and others
  • Excellent computer skills and interest in applying new communication technologies and software as appropriate
  • Initiative and ability to work without supervision
  • Willingness to work flexibly as part of a small team, to provide guidance and support to co-workers and to foster a strong team environment
  • A commitment to human rights and supporting the work of human rights defenders

Desirable:

  • Understanding of the operating environment for non-governmental organisations in Australia and/or the region
  • Experience with updating and maintaining Websites

The position is full-time (37.5 hours) per week (flexible and family friendly hours can be negotiated) and is for 12 months (may be extended subject to the availability of funding). The salary is to be negotiated, based on experience.
