We are seeking 2x talented Mentors, interested in supporting adult learners through education programs and into employment. As a mentor you will play a key role in supporting learners in our Work Readiness Program to develop an understanding of their values, motivations and skills and assist them to utilise these to successfully complete their study and find employment.
The mentor works closely with learners to build their self-esteem, develop their growth mindset, and support them to find clarity on the steps required to complete their Certificate III in Individual Support, Aged Care and attain a rewarding career in the growing aged care sector. The mentor offers behavioural skills and mindset coaching, employment search support, and referral pathways for those requiring sustained health, social or financial support.

The mentor plays a primary role in supporting learners with and promoting wellness and positive mental health practices.

- Remuneration: $34 - $38 p/h (dependent on experience)

TO BE SUCCESSFUL YOU'LL NEED:
- At least 3 years’ experience in mentoring, social support, coaching or human relations roles.
- Experience working with disconnected communities and offering support to assist them to overcome challenges.
- Knowledge of employability skills such as CV writing, cover letters, job applications, Linked In etc.
- An enthusiasm for offering personalised support and encouraging Wellness practices.
- Be comfortable assisting students to challenge their approaches to problem solving, supporting them to embrace a growth mindset.
- An understanding of current Australian job search practices.
- An enthusiasm for exploring counselling and support techniques that may vary from mentee to mentee.
- Comfort presenting on topics such as time-management, wellbeing, employment essentials.
- Be comfortable working with individuals who may be experiencing poor mental or physical health, low self-esteem, family violence issues or grief.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to plan, manage appointments and anticipate need.
- High degree of self-motivation and independence whilst also being a team player.
- Embrace working with a diverse group of mentees.
- Remain self-reflective and open to feedback.
- Be contactable outside of your casual hours, to answer queries from the team, if necessary.
- A professional demeanour, excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Mentor up to 20 participants whilst they complete an intensive program of study (2 months or 4 months).
- Offer one-on-one sessions that develop the mentees understanding of their skills and areas for growth, and work towards supporting them into employment.
- Follow a structured mentor approach with each mentee, whilst adapting types of support in response to the mentees needs.
- Be able to support mentees in times of stress or unexpected family or health issues.
- Support the Catalyst team in Recruitment for future programs, if required.
- Improve the mentee’s ability to complete their program of study, by offering individualised support in areas you both identify as necessary for growth.
- Be component in presenting to participants on topics that involve positive behavioural, skills and mindsets, as well as employment readiness topics.
- Provided feedback on a mentee’s job interview skills, CV, cover letters and employment profiles.
- Report to the Program Coordinator to ensure participants are able to successfully complete their studies.
- Work with our Mentor Coordinator and mentor team to improve our ability to offer meaningful coaching techniques and resources.
- Flag potential risk for mentees in a timely manner and offer appropriate support.
- Refer mentees to other appropriate support services if required.
- Responsible for accurate and timely data collection to help inform program evaluation and monitor impact.
