About the Role

The Program Lead, Scaleup & Mentor Network is responsible for leading EnergyLab’s flagship Energy Scaleup Program and managing our national network of over 450 mentors. This role is critical to ensuring the program delivers meaningful results for startups and partners, and to enhancing EnergyLab’s position as a leading startup support organisation in climate tech.

About the Energy Scaleup Program

With 5 previous programs and the 6th cohort kicking off right now, the annual Energy Scaleup Program brings pilot ready startups and energy companies together to jointly deploy clean energy solutions. Key Responsibilities

  • Find and recruit amazing startups from around the globe that meet energy partners needs to participate in the EnergyLab Scaleup Program.
  • Lead delivery of a high-quality program experience that exceeds expectations for all stakeholders:
    • Ensure all program activities are organised in a timely fashion and are carried out in a way that reflects well on EnergyLab. These can include virtual and in person events, sessions with industry contacts, collaboration sessions with partners, networking events, and a range of other activities that may foster positive outcomes for the program.
    • Collect regular feedback on program activities and improve the program accordingly.
    • Continually refine the program to improve outcomes and satisfaction levels.
    • Develop and execute on a social media strategy to support and promote the program. 
  • Ensure startup participants are receiving the support they need to succeed:
    • Check in with startups regularly and work with the CEO to ensure the program is delivering what startups need.
    • Make introductions to mentors, business coaches and other contacts to deliver on those needs.
    • Ensure each startup can clearly articulate how the program accelerated their progress and has a compelling success story within 12 months.
  • Ensure program partners and other stakeholders are achieving their goals for the program, expand the number of partners in the program:
    • Check in with partners and other stakeholders on a regular basis.
    • Assist where required to create positive outcomes between startups and program partners - such as pilots or contracts.
    • Deliver on benefits for the program partners and other stakeholders as per the contracts between EnergyLab and the program partners.
    • Work with the CEO of EnergyLab on business and relationship development strategies with energy companies and other stakeholders.
    • Develop case studies that share the wins between partners and startups as a direct result of the Scaleup Program. 
  • Grow, nurture and utilise the EnergyLab mentor network:
    • Mentor Recruitment & Engagement.
    • Recruit qualified new mentors each year, aligned with the industry segments and locations where EnergyLab operates.
    • Introduce mentors to startups where appropriate, ensuring a strong fit based on expertise and need.
    • Find and create opportunities for mentors to engage with startups—including via other EnergyLab programs—and promote these opportunities in the mentor newsletter.
    • Leverage the mentor network to source high-quality workshop presenters and guest speakers for EnergyLab programs and events.
    • Act as editor of the monthly Mentor Newsletter, writing and distributing relevant updates, opportunities, and success stories.
    • Mentor Network Operations & Strategy.
    • Ensure each mentor has a complete and up-to-date profile to enable efficient matching with startups and program opportunities.
    • Respond to mentor enquiries in a timely and professional manner, and resolve any issues that arise.
    • Work with the team and IT providers to further develop and enhance the mentor platform.
    • Conduct an annual review of mentor network performance and develop strategies to refine and improve engagement and impact.
  • Help with other key EnergyLab Activities as required:
    • Keep in regular contact with startup alumni to understand their progress, share their wins and help where possible.
    • Support social media posts, events & community management.
    • Keep the stakeholder contact system up to date with latest information on mentors, startups and partners. 

About You

  • You have prior experience in a range the following - startup support, project management, business development, innovation, technology, the energy industry, decarbonisation or sustainability.
  • You may be a professional with a minimum of 5 years of experience looking for an organisation where you can have a more positive impact on the world.
  • You are great at building and cultivating relationships in person, over email, on the phone or via zoom,  it doesn't matter to you, as you can build rapport and create positive relationships no matter the situation.
  • You love being organised and can get things smoothly and efficiently back on track if something unexpected pops up.
  • You enjoy finding ways to improve your role and what's around you including seeking out feedback on what you have delivered - positive, negative or constructive and using it to improve your approach for next time.
  • You love being part of a team, will be the first to offer to help another team member and enjoy sharing in others success.
  • You’re confident with modern tools like Google Workspace, Slack, Zoom, Calendly, and Mailchimp—and curious about what’s next
