About the role

As an Employment Mentor you will provide individualised support, assistance and guidance to Refugee and Asylum Seeker job seekers in an Outreach Model in the Mildura and surrounding region. This will involve regular travel to meet with clients in a community based location, and working on-site in the Mildura office or remotely from home for the remainder of the time.

If successful, you will work with your clients to:

  • Address/overcome barriers to employment and ensure that they gain suitable employment opportunities, within an appropriate time frame;
  • Negotiate, monitor and review the delivery of employment support services for those clients;
  • Provide case management to a caseload of job seekers, reverse market candidates, job search training and;
  • Support employers as they take on refugee and asylum seeker candidates

To be considered for this role, you will be able to demonstrate the following key selection criteria:

  • Some case management or client liaison experience, including work with Refugees and Asylum Seekers and the challenges they face
  • A current Working With Children Check (Employee) for Victoria
  • A current valid Driver Licence (for Victoria)
  • Access to your own vehicle that is covered by comprehensive motor vehicle insurance, which you are prepared to use for work purposes
  • Ability and willingness to travel on a regular basis to your allocated Outreach area, and if required to stay overnight(s)
  • Ability to work remotely from home on a regular basis
  • A working knowledge and understanding of employment support services, specifically for refugee and asylum seeker cohorts and the challenges they face
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current labour market trends
  • Demonstrated record of success in placement of job seekers into employment or experience in a similar role
  • Demonstrated ability to provide comprehensive job seeker assessment, identifying barriers to employment and preparing individual career or job plans
  • Proven ability to motivate clients, and advocate and negotiate on their behalf
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills to implement innovative job seeker focused solutions to gain employment
  • Strong time management, organisational and well developed computer skills
  • Demonstrated positive values of integrity, reliability, teamwork and professionalism consistent with the AMES Vision and demonstrated commitment to the quality and continuous improvement principles
  • Previous Employment Services experience is desirable
  • Ability to speak a second language will be highly regarded
  • Certificate III in Employment Services and/or Certificate IV in Workplace Assessment and Training is preferred; and a relevant tertiary qualification will be highly regarded
