The National Registration and Accreditation Scheme (The National Scheme) regulates more than 670,000 registered health practitioners and over 150,000 registered students across 14 health professions. It also accredits over 740 approved programs of study delivered by over 330 education providers.

Applications are now sought to fill a vacancy on the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) Research Evaluation Committee.

The Research Evaluation Committee has been established to provide advice and recommendations to the AHPRA Chief Executive Officer and National Executive team on the strategic use of data and research to inform policy and regulatory decision-making to reduce harm to the public and facilitate workforce reform.

Functions of the Research Evaluation Committee include providing advice and recommendations on:

  • building capacity for analysis within the National Scheme
  • supporting external collaboration and partnerships on regulatory research
  • conducting or supporting high value regulatory research and analysis to provide an empirical base for regulation, and
  • Effectively governing access to data generated by the National Scheme. 

The AHPRA has a commitment to increasing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ leadership and voices. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply, as are people from rural or regional areas in Australia.

Appointments are for up to two years and are expected to commence in June 2018.

We are seeking applications from active and engaged consumers or community advisors with the following skills and attributes:

  • a basic understanding of research
  • no vested interest in the research conducted by AHPRA
  • open-minded, fair, impartial and able to articulate one’s views and opinions clearly
  • prepared to listen and respond thoughtfully to differing views while 'thinking outside the box' and challenging the status quo
  • the confidence to ask questions and initiate discussion in a committee environment
  • have realistic expectations of what can be achieved, and
  • commitment and time to play an active role.

Please note, the following persons are ineligible for appointment:

  • anyone who has served as a member of an AHPRA National Board, panel or committee within the past 5 years,
  • anyone who has been involved in any official capacity in the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme within the past 5 years, or
  • a currently registered health practitioner.
