The Public Health Program Officer – Public Health (50D) is responsible for providing ongoing support and advice about continuous quality improvement approaches to improving systems of care for the Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services and providing public health information to AHCWA’s Member Services and external stakeholders in Western Australia.

In this role, you will be required to provide a cultural lens to public health responses, share knowledge and promote culturally secure, comprehensive primary health care across the State.

About You

Aboriginality is an essential criterion and is provided for under Section 50(d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA).

We’re looking for someone with the following skills and experience:

  • Possession of relevant health qualification (i.e. Public Health / Health Promotion / Aboriginal Health Practitioner or Worker / Registered Nurse).
  • Demonstrated experience in the primary health care setting (e.g. Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services, public health, health promotion or clinical).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the service delivery issues facing Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services.
  • Highly developed written, verbal and interpersonal skills including negotiation and consultation skills and the ability to proactively establish and sustain effective working relationships.
  • Well-developed ability to undertake action research to prepare, collate and organise data.

Please note: In addition to the above skills and experience, the successful candidate will require an unrestricted WA “C” Class Driver’s Licence, and be required to submit a National Police Clearance (dated within 3 months) prior to appointment. Applicants for this position must be legally entitled to work in Australia and will be required to provide evidence of this entitlement, such as an Australian passport or birth certificate.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
