About the Counselling and Referral service (QLife)

Switchboard provides a telephone and web counselling, information and referral service to the LGBTIQA+ communities and their friends, families allies and those who work with and provide support to.

Switchboard has partnered with similar organisations across Australia and the National LGBTI Health Alliance in delivering the QLife project to ensure telephone and web counselling is available nationally and everyday of the year from 3pm - Midnight.

Position Overview:

The Team Leaders role is to work independently with volunteers in the Switchboard phone room (Teleweb) to support volunteers to provide excellence in referral pathways, peer support, crisis intervention, relief of social isolation and identification of needs for those who contact the service.

The Team leader will work in collaboration with the Teleweb manager and the Counselling Supervisor to support the volunteers to address the changing nature of the work in the service. To provide support and guidance to volunteers who are dealing with callers experiencing high levels of distress and crisis. As a service, Switchboard is actively working in the suicide and family violence prevention spaces and the contacts to the service reflect this.

Through this position Switchboard is aiming to provide greater support and guidance to its volunteer workforce. This will include training and assessment of new and current volunteers.

This role will require after hours and weekend work on a weekly basis and working to a roster.
