NT PHN is partnering with Gove Amcal Pharmacy to find a passionate and engaging Pharmacist to join their team in Nhulunbuy. Gove Amcal Pharmacy is a progressive pharmacy providing pharmacy services to the remote township and surrounding indigenous health centres.
As the Pharmacist, your role is to display and implement accepted professional and ethical standards and behaviours in accordance with being a qualified and registered pharmacist in Australia, complying with the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (PSA) guidelines. You will ensure the safe and effective delivery of medicines and pharmacy services to customers.

The ideal candidate will have strong organisational skills and a passion to deliver exceptional health outcomes for clients. They will demonstrate the ability to be able to work inside and outside the normal shop environment as a part of an interdisciplinary team. A thorough induction will ensure that the successful candidate is familiar with the rich culture of the clients in the region. Gove Amcal Pharmacy are seeking Pharmacists with a passion to further their clinical knowledge and develop skills that may fall outside a normal pharmacy role.

Key responsibilities 

  • Delivery of quality pharmacy care in the Retail outlet and /S100 Dispensary
  • Dispensing and monitoring of over the counter (OTC) products and counselling customers in their use
  • Compliance with national reporting and monitoring obligations with regard to the sale of over the counter products and their distribution
  • Undertaking Clinically meaningful community visits to enhance the pharmacy's role within the interdisciplinary team of health centres and conducting interviews for Home Medicine reviews (HMRs)
  • Consistently provide a high standard of customer service including counselling customers on the use of their prescriptions and OTC medicines
  • Ensure that professional knowledge in relation to drugs, usage, dosage and side effects remains up to date, is evidence based and in accordance with Pharmacy Board of Australia requirements
  • Remain up to date with Industry changes and in particular changes that may affect the business such as PBS reform and Community Pharmacy Agreement
  • Ordering of stock in accordance with Pharmacy policies, including dispensary and bulk items

Essential criteria

To be considered for this opportunity, you must meet the below essential criteria:

  • Registration as a Pharmacist with the Pharmacy Board of Australia (AHPRA)
  • Minimum 3 years' experience as a Pharmacist and previous experience working in remote indigenous communities
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander societies and culture, including issues affecting communities
  • Demonstrated ability to independently make sound judgement with minimum supervision however also the ability to work within a team environment and meet deadlines

The Location: Arnhem Land Region

Nhulunbuy is located in north east Arnhem Land where the Gulf of Carpentaria meets the Arafura Sea. The climate in Arnhem Land is tropical, with two distinct seasons: the wet and the dry. The area is great for fishing and it is argued that this area offers some of the best fishing and oldest Aboriginal rock art in the world. Nhulunbuy is the central hub of the region and is well facilitated with amenities such as schools, a supermarket, markets and a variety of recreational activities and sports clubs. The main town was purpose built in the 1960s for the mining industry and has a population of just under 4000, however the Yolgnu Aboriginal people, one of the largest Indigenous groups in Australia, have lived in the region for at least 40,000 years. The Yolngu people are famous for their bark paintings and traditional Aboriginal culture.
