About us

The Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages (BDM) registers, and records in perpetuity, the significant life events of Victorians. The BDM secures today's records and creates services for the benefit of the community now and into the future.

About the role

The Aboriginal Relationship Officer sits within the Policy, Communications and Community Partnerships portfolio in BDM. The role works to improve awareness of, and access to, BDM services within Victoria’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities through a multi-disciplinary approach that includes direct community outreach, policy development and proactive stakeholder engagement.

About you

We are looking for a person who has experience in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to partner with various organisations to promote BDM services. Ensuring that culturally sensitive services and products are provided will be a feature of this role. Regional travel will also be required for this role. As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • A demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal Community, both society and culture and the issues impacting on it
  • A demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with members of the Victorian Aboriginal community
  • Demonstrated ability to research, develop policies and processes and implement projects in partnership with external stakeholders
  • The ability to problem solve and find solutions that balance the departmental and Aboriginal community expectations.

This is an identified position. A strong network of contacts within Victorian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities or experience in stakeholder engagement is highly desirable.
