About the role:

This position will manage a research project that involves developing and evaluating an online mental health training program for secondary school teachers (titled BEAM: Building Educators Awareness of adolescent Mental health). This role will oversee the BEAM project to ensure that the Institute creates and delivers an effective, engaging, and useful training resource for secondary school teachers.

This position is broadly responsible for adapting and evaluating the program with scientific rigour. This position will be responsible for overseeing this program of research, contributing to the research vision within the program, ensuring research outputs are of high quality, and projects are managed within timeframe and budget. The primary duty of this position is to provide a high level of leadership and management to the BEAM program of research.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage administrative tasks associated with the project including milestone setting and tracking
  • Maintain records of budget expenditure costs associated with the project and liaise with the budget holder to assist in the management of the project account
  • Providing supervision support including delegating research activities and responsibilities as appropriate and in accordance with the team plan, as well as providing staff with feedback on performance
  • Travelling within the Sydney area and to regional areas as projects require
  • Provide significant leadership to the research design process including preparation of research protocols, undertaking literature searches, conducting comprehensive reviews, preparing ethics applications and research reports
  • Lead the design and implementation of appropriate quantitative and qualitative research practices including collations, analysis, and interpretation of datasets and statistical analysis of data using appropriate methodologies
  • Oversee the quality improvement process for adapting and amending the existing BEAM program and other digital health interventions in response to end-user feedback
  • Liaise and facilitate communication with internal and external stakeholders for related projects such as health departments, philanthropic bodies, and other research groups to provide progress reports, funding reports and disseminate study findings
  • Provide accurate and timely reports on research findings as requested and contribute to the dissemination of results
  • Ensure self and all staff comply with all WHS legislation WHS Policy and Procedures

Selection criteria

Essential Criteria:

  1. A Masters degree or PhD in psychology, public health, allied health, or other relevant area
  2. A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in managing research projects in mental health or a related field to demonstrate strong project management skills
  3. Demonstrated experience in designing and conducting quantitative research in mental health or a related field, including data collection, analysis, and interpretation of research results
  4. Highly developed written and oral communication skills, with a demonstrated track record in publishing academic outputs and writing for diverse audiences
  5. Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders to build collaborative relationships
  6. Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team and with minimal supervision, as well as manage and supervise staff
  7. A valid Working with Children Check or the eligibility to obtain one upon employment offer

Desirable Criteria:

  1. Experience working with teachers and/or schools
  2. Experience working in e-health and digital technology
  3. Experience in adult training and education
