  • Band 6 $107,824 per annum + 10.5% superannuation

The Life Sciences Manager, Animal Health is primarily responsible for management of the Healesville Sanctuary Veterinary Department. This position is also part of the Senior Leadership team at Healesville Sanctuary, contributing to the strategic development of the organisation.

This role will work closely with the Senior Veterinarian and Senior Veterinary Nurse to deliver world leading animal health and welfare management practice to the animals in our care at Healesville Sanctuary and sick or injured wildlife brought in to the Australian Wildlife Health Centre. This position requires a driven and compassionate leader who is responsible for developing and maintaining our high-performing team, who represents the veterinary department internally and externally, and who effectively manages resources with sound budgeting, rostering, and planning practices.

The main focuses of the role during this fixed term period includes continual support of the AWHC team to maintain a unified and positive team culture, leading the Carer Interactions Project to improve efficiencies and standards as well as working closely with Project Management team to progress the AWHC Gallery and Raptor Projects.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Demonstrated experience in managing people, strong leadership skills, ability to coach staff, and to develop a unified team spirit.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to maintain effective working relationships with external and internal stakeholders
  • An ability to monitor and modify work flows within complex teams, in such a way that all staff feel supported, trusted and empowered to do their jobs
  • Exceptional organisation and time management skills, with experience in prioritising and delegating work to best support a team and achieve targets in a changing and complex environment.
