Make a difference in the lives of at risk women, young women and girls!

We are looking for a passionate and dedicated Community Housing Officer who is committed to supporting residents, fostering sustainable tenancies, and contributing to inclusive, community-focused housing solutions.

About Us

For over 140 years we have been working at the forefront of gender equality through our housing, community programs and advocacy. Our five-year plan has a focus on making young women’s leadership and women’s housing our priority for gender equity in Australia.

About the team

Our Housing Operations Team operates as the face of YWCA Australia and YWCA Housing to our residents, playing a vital role in fostering sustainable tenancies. Through efficient administrative practices and proactive engagement, the team ensures that residents are supported in maintaining stable and secure housing.

About the role

We are seeking a passionate Community Housing Officer to join our team! In this role, you will play a key part in supporting sustainable tenancies by carrying out a range of efficient administrative tasks and actions, including:

  • Operating across the housing portfolio within the relevant state Residential Tenancies Act (RTA) for all tenancy actions such as allocation, rent collection, signing up tenancies, maintenance and access.
  • Maintain accurate tenancy records across systems, ensuring compliance with the relevant state Residential Tenancies Act for all tenancy-related actions.
  • Provide residents with information on policies and procedures, conduct regular home visits, and offer referrals to external agencies as needed to support sustainable tenancies.
  • Raise, monitor, and endorse responsive and cyclical maintenance work, ensuring contractor compliance, cost-effectiveness, and adherence to timelines and standards.
  • Represent the organisation at state tribunal hearings and mediate resident disputes, particularly within Rooming Houses, to maintain a safe and respectful living environment.
  • Work closely with the Asset Management team to support maintenance practices, contribute to budget adherence, and provide regular updates to the Team Leader.

About you

The ideal applicant will have:

  • Proven experience in community housing or a property-related industry, with strong knowledge of tenancy management, RTA legislation, and administrative processes.
  • Solid understanding of the relevant state Residential Tenancies Act.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with cultural sensitivity and the ability to engage with diverse communities, including those experiencing homelessness.
  • Proficiency in managing tenancy data using systems (e.g. Chintaro and Zavanti).
  • Excellent communication, both written and verbal, along with strong organisational, administrative, and computer skills (Excel, Word, email).
  • Demonstrated ability in mediation and conflict resolution.
  • Valid state-based driver’s licence

What to expect

Before you start, successful candidates will need to complete the following pre-employment checks:

  • National Criminal History Check
  • Valid State-Based Working with Children Permit
  • Medical Declaration
