The Opportunity

YMCA of the Northern Territory is currently looking for an amazing individual to fill the role of Team Leader at the Palmerston Youth Centre.

If you are someone with experience in the youth services sector, who is driven by making a positive impact in the community, have established leadership skills and are looking for the next step in your career, this role would be perfect for you.

The Palmerston Youth Centre is an empowering, inclusive drop-in space for young people, run in partnership by the Y and Larrakia Nation.

Everyone at the YNT is dedicated to making a positive community impact in all the work we do. From childcare, to before and after school care, from recreation and aquatics, to youth services, we believe in the power of inspired young people. Whether they are in our care, participate in in our programs, or work for us, we work to empower young people to be all they can be.

The role of Palmerston Youth Centre Team Leader requires leadership both at the centre, with the chance to shape the culture of a new team, and in the wider Palmerston community, giving young people of Palmerston an opportunity to have their voices heard.

As Team Leader, you are responsible for the successful operation of the Centre. You manage a team of Mentors and Youth Workers with strong leadership and excellent communication. You build positive connections with young people accessing the PYC and role model best-practice youth work. You provide guidance, direction and advice to the PYC team. You place young people's voices and opinions at the core of all operations and ensure the PYC is youth-led and strengths-based.

With specific responsibility for the weekends and public holidays, you ensure leadership coverage across all the centre's opening hours to give the young people of Palmerston the opportunity to access the drop in every day of the week.

To thrive in the role, you have a comfortable leadership style, are great at managing multiple priorities and have your finger on the pulse. You're someone who finds it easy to build and maintain relationships with all the people you meet, especially young people. You are skilled at mentoring, planning, being dynamic and communicating, and can easily adapt your, always professional, style to the relevant audience. You have a keen eye for identifying any potential risks, and a proactive approach to mitigating them.

If you believe in the power of inspired young people, enjoy shifting perceptions and helping communities to thrive. If you are nimble, dynamic, love people, and love life. If you want to work where every day is a great day for making an impact, then this is the role for you!

With facilities in Darwin, Katherine and Alice Springs as well as Palmerston, there are endless opportunities at the Y of the NT!

If everything you have read has planted an idea in your head and a smile on your face, we need to hear from you!
