NDIS Digital and Content Officer (Identified Position)

Youth Disability Advocacy Service

About Youth Disability Advocacy Service (YDAS)

YDAS is a core YACVic agency, funded by the Victorian Government. At YDAS, we place the human rights and interests of disabled young people* at the centre of our work. YDAS undertakes individual and policy advocacy, working with disabled young people to ensure that their human rights are upheld so they can access services and participate as valued and respected members of their communities.

*In this document YDAS uses identity first language (disabled young people), as per the advice of the YDAS Steering Committee, which is comprised of disabled young people. However, we recognise that language and identity are personal choices, and that some people may prefer to use other terms including person first language (young people with disability).

About Youth Affairs Council Victoria (YACVic)

YACVic is the peak body and leading policy advocate on young people's issues in Victoria. YACVic’s vision is that the rights of young people in Victoria are respected, and they are active, visible and valued in their communities. For over 60 years, YACVic has advocated for the best interests of young people (aged 12-25 years) and the sector that works with them.

YACVic provides additional targeted advocacy and services through our key services, YACVic Rural and YDAS.

Background

In July 2023, the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission (NDIS Commission) announced $4.4 million in grants to support the development of resources to deliver better outcomes for participants in the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). This includes the development of resources and initiatives to support people with disability to know their rights and speak up about what is important to them when receiving disability supports.

YDAS received funding from this grant program to co-design, develop and deliver resources targeted at disabled young people.

About the role

The NDIS Digital and Content Officer will work closely with the YDAS Communications Project Officer to develop and produce engaging online resources about the rights of disabled young people and how they can speak up and make complaints about NDIS providers. They will liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure consistent and accessible messaging about the NDIS and disabled young people. They will make sure that all resources developed by YDAS align with NDIS Commission guidelines and existing resources.

This role will lead the provision of engaging, exciting and youth relevant information for young people with disabilities to transition into the NDIS with the greatest sense of choice, control and confidence.
