About the role

The position leads WWF-Australia's efforts to ensure that Australia's bid to host COP31 with the Pacific secures a defining moment for climate, nature and communities and helps to stabilise global warming to 1.5°C.

Building connections across government, business and community sectors, this position will convene, inform, and strengthen the capacity of a diverse and inclusive range of stakeholders to engage meaningfully and constructively in multilateral climate policy processes.

It will also support WWF-Australia's broader Regenerative Climate program by providing strategic insights into Australia's positions on relevant UNFCCC mechanisms and platforms, and represents WWF perspectives on these issues at high-level events and meetings.

Key accountabilities (please refer to PD for full list)

  • Leads WWF-Australia's efforts to ensure that Australia's bid to host COP31 with the Pacific secures a defining moment for climate, nature and communities and helps to stabilise global warming to 1.5°C.
  • Identifies and builds strategic alliances across government, business and community sectors to achieve positive outcomes for climate, communities and nature.
  • Contributes to WWF-Australia initiatives aimed at supporting capacity of community partners in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region to encourage ambitious climate action, including through supporting the Oceania's First Voices program.
  • Manages program budgets, internal reporting, and ensures accountability to donors and supporters.
  • As the subject matter expert, co-creates rich conservation content to engage WWF audiences and mobilise support, including seeking new funding opportunities and developing new project proposals.
  • Draws on the expertise of WWF-Australia and WWF global network technical and policy specialists, to synthesise key messages in the context of multilateral climate policy and processes.

Skills, knowledge and experience

  • Highly advanced advocacy, interpersonal, presentation, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build, convene and support networks or alliances of diverse groups to work towards shared objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesise and communicate complex, technical information across a broad range of issues and to a diverse range of audiences.
  • Demonstrated understanding of multilateral policy processes, ideally related to current international climate change negotiations, including major global processes and relevant initiatives.
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of climate change related environmental conservation issues, including mitigation, adaptation, and/or loss & damage.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in climate change and/or sustainability related policy development processes and planning, including demonstrated engagement in government decision-making processes.
  • An ability to work autonomously and constructively across a flexible team-based environment.
