About The Role

The Landscape Restoration and Protection team partners with individuals and organisations to restore and protect Australian water, soil, local and global climates and Australian fauna and flora. The position supports landscape restoration opportunities that benefit people and nature in priority landscapes, including the delivery of large-scale environmental plantings as part of WWF-Australia's Koala Friendly Carbon initiative. The position tests innovative approaches to integrate climate resilience and adaptation into restoration and regeneration strategies.

Key Accountabilities

  • Undertaking spatial prioritisation and mapping of sites for large scale direct seeding and tree planting, regeneration and protection projects in the key landscape areas
  • Project managing large-scale environmental plantings
  • Collating and analysing quantitative and qualitative monitoring data across restoration projects, to inform project adaptation and impact reports
  • Ensuring monitoring data collected by project proponents is consistent and best practice
  • Supporting collection/analysis of koala and other priority species data

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

  • A track record in coordinating restoration and revegetation initiatives, including spatial prioritisation, site assessments, monitoring, analysis and reporting.
  • Experience in multi-disciplinary stakeholder management, such as supporting partnerships with farmers/graziers, landcare groups, government land management and conservation agencies.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) in conservation planning.
  • A working knowledge of forest/land carbon sequestration and abatement.
  • A working knowledge of techniques for revegetation, assisted natural regeneration, tree planting, drone- or vehicle-based direct seeding and carbon farming.
  • Experience working in a cross-cultural environment and understanding of the cultural context when working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander or other Indigenous peoples.
  • Excellent communications skills including interpersonal, negotiation, conflict resolution, networking and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated workplace health & safety experience within a field work context.
