The Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation is a Registered Aboriginal Party (RAP) appointed under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 (Vic.). We represent the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Traditional Owners of Melbourne and the Greater Melbourne region, and we take great pride in our responsibility for protecting and managing Aboriginal cultural heritage objects and places on Wurundjeri Country. The Corporation offers a range of cultural services including cultural heritage consultation, environmental land management, cross-cultural education, traditional Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremonies, research and cultural consultations.

THE ROLE

Reporting to the Manager, Research Unit, this new role will be responsible for managing the Strategic Aboriginal Heritage Assessment (SAHA) Project. The position will involve:

• Partnering with external researchers to manage and execute the SAHA Project from end to end
• Conducting reviews, assessments, urban design briefs
• Providing guidance, advice and reports as required
• Liaising between First Peoples, State Relations and Wurundjeri Corporation
• Carrying out cultural, historical and specialist research

ABOUT YOU

The successful candidate will hold:

• A graduate degree with Honours (or equivalent) in Anthropology, Indigenous Studies, Australian History or Archaeology
• A strong track record in ethnographic and qualitative research
• Project management skills and experience
• A thorough understanding of the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006
• Superior analytical, problem solving and communication skills
• A passion for supporting Traditional Owner groups and the preservation of Aboriginal cultural heritage
