Are you passionate about making a difference for Indigenous students and families? We are seeking a dedicated Education Liaison Officer to join our team and help advance self-determination, cultural identity, and educational success for Indigenous students on Wurundjeri Country.

About Us

The Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation (Wurundjeri Corporation) is a Registered Aboriginal Party appointed under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006. The Corporation holds statutory responsibilities for the protection and management of Aboriginal cultural heritage and Aboriginal intangible heritage on Wurundjeri Country. Additional functions of the Corporation include, environmental land management, cross-cultural education, traditional welcome to country and smoking ceremonies, research and cultural consultations.

About the Role

This is a three-year, fixed term, part-time (4-day week) position, where you will be at the forefront of supporting Indigenous students and their families. Reporting to the Education Unit Manager and Operations Manager, you’ll develop culturally responsive engagement strategies, advocate for student needs, and build strong partnerships with schools, families, and community organisations. Your work will directly contribute to improved attendance, wellbeing, and participation in school life.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mentor and provide learning support for Indigenous students
  • Promote cultural engagement and strengthen student identity and belonging
  • Build trusting relationships with families to encourage school participation
  • Champion cultural safety, awareness, and inclusion in education
  • Facilitate communication between schools, students, and families
  • Organise and participate in cultural events and staff training
  • Liaise with Aboriginal organisations and external partners
  • Maintain accurate reporting and contribute to ongoing improvements

About You:

  • Melbourne-based and a member of a local Indigenous community
  • Experience in education, social work, or community services
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills
  • Deep understanding of Indigenous culture and commitment to positive change
  • Able to work independently, collaboratively, and respectfully in diverse settings
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 Office Suite
  • Holds a Working with Children Check and a valid driver’s licence
