Wunan Foundation is a leading Aboriginal development organisation based in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Its purpose is to ensure that Aboriginal people enjoy the capabilities and opportunities necessary to make positive choices that lead to independent, fulfilling lives.

Wunan delivers the Journey to Empowerment program in the East Kimberley. The purpose of the Journey to Empowerment program is to support participants on their journey to self-reliance and empowerment through offering supported employment opportunities.

We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Activity Coordinator to plan, organise, and lead engaging outdoor activities for male and female participants in the Journey to Empowerment program. The coordinator will be responsible for providing a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment that promotes leadership and self-care and supports participants through their employment journey.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, and implement a variety of outdoor and camping activities tailored to men’s and women's interests (e.g., camping, campfire sessions, self-care workshop, art through healing therapy, women in leadership workshop, fishing activities).
  • Coordinate logistics for trips, including transportation, site bookings, meals, and, contacting facilitators
  • Lead and supervise day-to-day activities at camp or outdoor locations
  • Work closely with the Journey to Empowerment team to support participants with transport or other wraparound support as required
  • Ensure safety protocols and risk assessments are always followed

Key Requirements

  • Current unrestricted Australian Drivers Licence
  • Ability to take initiative and work autonomously as well as work co-operatively as part of a team
  • A demonstrated commitment to the core mission of Wunan
  • National Police Check / NDIS Worker Screening / WWCC
  • Effective communication skills to interact effectively with participants, colleagues, facilitators and volunteers
  • The ability to work with diverse people, particularly Aboriginal people in the East Kimberley

Essential Criteria

  • A strong understanding of Aboriginal people in general, and of Aboriginal people and communities in the East Kimberley in particular
  • A familiarity with Microsoft Office applications (predominantly Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Experience in community engagement, recreation, or skill-building workshops
  • Strong planning and organisational skills.

Pre-employment requirements

  • Satisfactory Criminal History Check (not older than 6 months)
  • Current Working with children clearance
  • Current Australian unrestricted ‘C’ class Driver’s license
