Headspace is Australia’s National Youth Mental Health Foundation, providing early intervention mental health services to 12- to 25-year-olds. Headspace has over 150 centres nationwide and has a ‘no wrong door’ approach for those seeking assistance. Headspace Kununurra, located on Miriwoong country, is a place where young people can get free and confidential support for their mental health, access non-judgemental information and support around drugs or alcohol and access to a GP for physical health needs (including sexual health). Headspace also helps with vocational and study needs.
Wunan Health is the only private GP Practice in the East Kimberley region. We provide a range of high-quality health care services to the residents of Kununurra, Wyndham, Halls Creek and extended communities. Our dedicated team comprises of General Practitioners/Registrars, Registered Nurses, Aboriginal Health Practitioners and our experienced Medical Administration team. Wunan Health is the lead agency of headspace Kununurra.
Engaging in Therapy:
The main component of this role is to provide evidence-based therapy to young people in the Kununurra community. This is primarily through one-on-one sessions in the headspace centre, but the clinician also has the flexibility to engage in sessions outside of a clinical setting. Can engage in group sessions with young people, if this falls within the clinical scope and expertise of the clinician.
Cultural Clinical Governance:
The clinician will be actively engaged in providing a cultural safe service for Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and all cultural and linguistically diverse (CALD) people in Kununurra. This will involve regular clinical cultural yarning sessions and completing in house and external cultural training sessions.

Tertiary Qualifications: A tertiary qualification in Psychology, Social Work, Mental Health Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Youth Services or another allied health discipline or relevant experience.
Professional Registration: Registered with an appropriate regulation agency, such as the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), or Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
Experience: Demonstrated experience in providing evidence-based therapeutic interventions in a clinical setting. Additionally, it is preferred but not required to have experience working with young people aged 12-25.
Skills and Knowledge: Demonstrated experience in mental health service delivery, and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. In addition, developed sound communication and interpersonal skills.
