Role Purpose

The Software Engineer for Woodfordia Inc provides software development design and coding expertise to Woodfordia Inc year-round. In consultation with the Executive and Senior staff, this position helps manage and deliver all Woodfordia’s online projects.

Woodfordia is in a time of transition for some of the systems that will form part of this role. We are looking to re-platform and where necessary redevelop some solutions onto more modern platforms with recent architecture patterns. Part of this role will be to investigate new ways of implementing systems with modern cloud-based approaches. For example, we are looking to setup Kubernetes clusters for API integrations as a means to broker, through API’s, some critical integrations between existing systems. We do not require extensive experience or expertise in these new approaches, but a thirst for doing things better and curiosity for what tools are available is a must have personal attribute.

Technical Requirements

Essential:

  • Degree in a relevant field such as computer science/engineering, software engineering, mathematics or related discipline.
  • Experience with Software development in any general purpose programming language (e.g. PHP, Java, Golang, or Python).
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Strong skills in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with WordPress development.
  • Solid understanding of Git version control.
  • Knowledge of REST APIs.
  • Experience with MySQL databases.
  • Exposure to CRM systems.
  • Exposure to Claris FileMaker or willingness to learn.

Additional:

  • Experience with Azure and AWS cloud platforms.
  • Hands-on with Kubernetes and Docker.
  • Experience with GraphQL databases.
  • Familiarity with modern front-end frameworks (React, Angular, or equivalent).
  • Understanding of OWASP security principles.
  • Exposure to event-driven architectures.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

Position Aims/Objectives

  • Design and custom development of solutions to support Woodfordia’s business
    • Key technologies include:
      • Golang, PHP
      • Azure and AWS
      • Based on SiteGround hosting
      • WordPress plugins and themes
  • Maintain code repositories and solution documentation.
  • Manage code version management and environments for production, testing and development.
  • Maintain and develop WordPress content structures and overall site security.
  • WordPress theme development.
  • Task documentation and management.
  • Learn the structure and code of Filemaker based systems to provide support and changes.
  • Deliver a supportive, caring workplace for Woodfordia Inc. colleagues. 

Duties

  • Website structural and functional design, development and maintenance for Woodford Folk Festival, The Planting, Festival of Small Halls, Lake Gkula Camping, Woodfordia Inc, A Forest of Goodwill and other website content as needed.
  • WordPress theme implementation (design).
  • Ensure website security and facilitate regular security checks, in accordance with OWASP principles.
  • Manage website and data backups.
  • Provide technical support.
  • Provide support during live events.
  • Task documentation and management.
  • Oversight and development of all Woodfordia databases (CRM – Keap, Performers – Filemaker, Venus (Volunteers), Programme website, Flicket, A Forest of Goodwill – SQL)
  • Review and implement 12 month Digital Road Map.
  • Manage external consultants and interns.

Package

  • $101,500 (including leave loading and superannuation)
  • After the probation period, open to 25% work from home.
