Position Overview:
Are you passionate about supporting women in a community setting? As a Shed Supervisor, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation and safety of our women's shed. You will be responsible for creating a welcoming, supportive, and safe environment for members, encouraging creativity and skill-building.
Your tasks will involve supervising the use of tools, ensuring member safety, and fostering a positive atmosphere where individuals feel comfortable and empowered to learn new skills.
No prior experience with tools is necessary for this role! As a Shed Supervisor, you'll be part of a supportive team with another supervisor, so you'll never be alone in managing the shed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitating Shed Opening/Closing:
- Open and close the shed on days the shed is open to the standards set out in the opening and closing procedures.
- Welcome and Engage Members:
- Greet members as they arrive at the shed and ensure they feel welcomed and supported.
- Assist members in understanding the Shed's resources, rules, and safety protocols.
- Distribute Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
- Ensure all members are wearing the appropriate PPE (e.g., safety goggles, gloves, ear protection) before using tools and equipment.
- Maintain the availability and condition of PPE supplies.
- Tool Safety and Education:
- Teach members how to safely and effectively use tools and machinery.
- Provide demonstrations and guidance on the safe handling of various tools, ensuring members understand their proper usage.
- Monitor the use of tools to ensure that safety protocols are being followed.
- Shed Safety and Maintenance:
- Regularly check the Shed's environment to ensure it remains safe and hazard-free.
- Report and address any maintenance needs or safety concerns.
- Member Wellbeing:
- Foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere within the shed.
- Be attentive to the emotional and physical wellbeing of members, providing support as needed.
- Encourage a respectful and supportive community where everyone feels comfortable participating.
- General Administrative Tasks (if needed):
- Assist with managing the schedule of shed sessions.
- Maintain records of PPE usage, safety checks, and any incidents or concerns.
- Assist with promoting shed events or workshops, as directed.
- Coordinate group projects, as directed.
Skills and Experience
Essential:
- Experience or willingness to learn about the safe use of tools and equipment (training will be provided if necessary).
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage tasks effectively.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to engage with a diverse group of people.
- Ability to foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful environment.
- Basic understanding of health and safety practices, including knowledge of PPE usage and emergency procedures (training will be provided if necessary).
Desirable:
- Previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role, especially in a community or
educational setting.
- First aid certification (or willingness to obtain one).
- Interest or experience in working with women in a community-based setting.
