About Us

Women's Legal Service Victoria (WLSV) is a not for profit organisation that has been providing free legal services to women for over 30 years. We specialise in issues arising from relationship breakdown and violence against women. WLSV provides free and confidential legal information, advice, referral and representation to women in Victoria.

Through our associated service, Family Law Legal Service, WLSV operates a daily duty lawyer service at the Family Law Courts and provides legal advice and representation to participants at three family dispute resolution services. 

About the Role

This is an opportunity to participate in an exciting organisation during a time when your contribution will be critical to our success.

In this role, you will participate in duty lawyer work, and provide high-quality legal advice and representation in complex family law matters, both parenting and property.  

Our legal and policy team work collaboratively to address systemic issues in law and policy through strategic casework. You will be a driven, motivated self-starter who has the ability to work autonomously to deliver results that exceed the client's expectations. You will have high attention to detail, strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with people quickly.

In addition, you will have:

  • A strong understanding of family law and intersecting jurisdictions 
  • Confidence in appearance work
  • Good organisational and time management skills; and the ability to manage changing priorities
  • An understanding of the gendered nature and impact of family violence

This is a full-time or part time, fixed-term position, for a period of 12 months.  

The salary range of $65,000 to $80,000 plus superannuation, dependent on experience.

Skills/Experience

You will have:

  • Bachelor of Laws and be either admitted or eligible for admission as a legal practitioner in Victoria.
  • A minimum of two years post admission experience in family law, in particular in litigation
  • Good organisational and time management skills; and the ability to handle changing priorities.
  • Strong communication and good advocacy skills
