The Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) is the Australian Government’s key agency charged with promoting and improving gender equality in Australian workplaces, through the provision of advice and assistance to employers and the assessment and measurement of workplace gender data. Our Agency was established by the Workplace Gender Equality Act 2012.
WGEA works to accelerate progress towards workplace gender equality. We are a small unique agency with a big agenda.

Why this role matters
The Capacity Building team works directly with employers across Australia to drive real change by strengthening leadership capability, improving workplace policy and processes, and embedding best practice across the employee lifecycle.
As a Senior Adviser in the Capacity Building team, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team of subject matter experts. You will play a key role in equipping employers with the tools, knowledge, and strategies needed to create more gender equal workplaces.
In this role, you will:
- Work to develop and implement practical solutions to help employers to make progress on workplace gender equality
- Lead engaging learning initiatives such as: workshops, masterclasses and eLearning modules.
- Provide tailored guidance onsite or virtually, regarding action planning and other capacity support requirement
- Collaborate across WGEA and beyond to drive meaningful, evidence-based change in Australian workplaces.

You are someone who can:
- Draw on your subject matter expertise and/or practitioner knowledge to analyse, develop and guide employers to identify opportunities to improve gender equality outcomes and implement the most effective strategies to address them.
- Create and deliver engaging workshops, masterclasses and micro-learning modules, facilitating sessions, create content and run specialist events, focus groups and round tables that build capability.
- Develop, implement and monitor direct practice projects and advisory services with Australian businesses.
- Lead research, planning and synthesising information relevant to our work and our stakeholder engagement programs. You will also be able to distil insights into digestible, and compelling reports, briefs and papers.
We are seeking an individual with a combination/range/mix of the following skills and capabilities
- Previous experience and demonstrated success in a similar role with a consulting and/or advisory capacity.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in gender equality, diversity and inclusion, HR or a related field or discipline that connects with the Capacity Building remit.
- High level verbal and written communication skills including previous experience in leading group facilitation, training and meetings.
- Highly effective stakeholder engagement and relationship building skills with exposure to Executive and Board.
- Well-developed organisational and time management skills, including the ability to deliver time-critical work under direction, prioritise tasks, make decisions and manage ambiguity.
- The ability to hold or obtain Baseline Security Clearance (this includes being an Australian Citizen).
Additional skills that would be valued but are not required:
- Previous project management or leadership experience.
- Research and evaluation experience, including working knowledge of quantitative and qualitative data and analysis methods.
