About the role

Working within The Early Intervention Psychosocial Support Response (EIPSR) team, which provides short to medium term tailored psychosocial supports for clients of the clinical mental health system, the Peer Community Mental Health Worker is responsible for providing quality community mental health psychosocial and recovery support services in partnership with clients, families/carers, Melbourne Health, Orygen and other community services to maximise personal recovery, health and wellbeing and social inclusion for young people and adults living with a mental illness.

The Peer Community Mental Health Worker role fulfils an important role in the service model as it includes the capability of the worker to share their lived experience of mental illness and recovery to benefit the individual client.

The role is pivotal in assisting people to participate in their own recovery and build capacity to achieve their identified goals and be independent.

About you

You possess well-developed communication skills you liaise comfortably with a range of internal and external stakeholders. You are an apt problem solver, capable of troubleshooting on your feet. To be suitable for this position, you will possess;

• A relevant tertiary qualification and/or significant relevant experience.
• Lived experience of mental illness and recovery and the capability to sharing lived experience as part of recovery-oriented practice.
• Demonstrated skills and minimum of two years' experience working in community mental health with clients who present with a high level of complexity, vulnerability and disadvantage.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a complex and changing internal and external environments with accountability to clients, teams and management.
• Sound understanding of challenges people with mental illness and their families face with a knowledge and understanding of recovery models of care, psychosocial support, youth developmental frameworks, and best practice evidence-based interventions, including the Collaborative Recovery Model.
• Ability to work in a strengths-based framework to facilitate client choice.
• Proven recovery coaching and psychosocial support skills with demonstrated accountability to clients, team and management.
• Ability to work collaboratively with the team and a range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure the provision of quality services.
• Outstanding ability to respectfully provide client-centred recovery oriented second consultation to other team members.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
