Wellsprings for Women established in 1994 in Dandenong, Victoria, is a community- based organisation dedicated to supporting women to gain control over their lives, recognise the root causes to the barriers they face and gain skills they need to achieve their goals. Wellsprings provides a range of services and programs that are designed in consultation with women especially women of migrant, refugee and asylum seeker background and women impacted by mental health, trauma, poverty and family violence. 

We are a neighbourhood house and a Learn Local, with a specialisation in women’s issues. We service the most multicultural population in Victoria. We are committed to gender equality, human rights and a society where women are safe and free from violence.

This position is open to females only. Wellsprings for Women’s conduct falls within the exceptions contained in sections 28 and 88 of the Victorian Equal Opportunity Act 2010.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position purpose:

Provide leadership in managing the organisation’s prevention of, and response  to family and domestic violence.

Main tasks

  • Foster positive team dynamics through role modelling and mentorship.
  • Support staff wellbeing and professional development, including strategies to prevent vicarious trauma.
  • Work with the Team Leader – Family Violence Women’s Support Program to address skill gaps, 
  • Implement staff development strategies and develop succession plans
  • Engage with relevant external stakeholders and networks to elevate Wellsprings’ role in prevention and response to family violence and to keep abreast of the emerging development in the sector.
  • Monitor implementation of family violence related projects, check progress and final reports, and ensure they are accurate and of high quality.
  • Contribute to the development of funding submissions to continue Wellsprings' role in delivering family violence prevention programs to women
  • Build effective and collaborative relationships with government and funding bodies
  • Ensure that Wellsprings’ reporting and compliance requirements are met and up to date
  • Organise professional development, reflective practice sessions to support the team’s performance and wellbeing
  • Contribute to the CEO monthly Board report

Other Duties

  • Attend relevant networks and sector meetings
  • Attend relevant Communities of Practice
  • Oversee the supervision of students placement in family violence prevention and response.
  • Participate in strategic planning
  • Prepare monthly reports for CEO and Board
  • Attend regular Management meetings and report on progress 
  • Fulfil other duties as required by CEO

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Qualifications:

  • Mandatory Qualifications – Family Violence Workforce

As per Recommendation 209 under Victoria’s Mandatory Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must:

  • Be EXEMPT under the policy, OR
  • Hold a Bachelor of Social Work or equivalent, OR
  • Have minimum 5 years of relevant experience or related qualifications, OR
  • Possess significant cultural knowledge and experience or lived experience. 

Applicants entering under experience-based or culturally informed pathways must commit to obtaining a relevant qualification within specified timeframes.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of relevant legislation and practice standards. 
  • In-depth understanding of:
  • Engagement challenges with victim survivors and families.
  • Gendered nature of family violence and its impact.
  • Psychological, developmental, and social effects of family violence on victim survivors.
  • Trauma and its impact on women, children, and family dynamics.
  • Diverse manifestations of family violence across communities.
  • Working with communities from migrant and refugee backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience including team performance, recruitment, coaching, and change management.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • High resilience and capacity to manage competing priorities.
  • Proven success in leading through change.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and quality improvement.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and capacity to learn new IT systems.
  • Knowledge of the Family Violence Federal and State policies
  • Knowledge of the Victorian Family Violence services sector
  • Deep understanding of particular issues that affect migrant and refugee women impacted by family violence
  • Full understanding of intersectionality and trauma informed practice 
  • Understanding, promotion and application of workplace, health and safety procedures
