  • Remuneration: Grade 6, $84,791.20 - $88,506.60 (commensurate with qualifications and experience) as per WRC Enterprise Agreement plus annual leave, superannuation 10.5%, and access to salary sacrificing arrangements

The Welfare Rights Centre has received funding from the Ecstra Foundation and the Collier Charitable Fund to boost its Community Legal Education (CLE) program and associated communication activities to respond to the unprecedented number of people who have lost their jobs due to the COVID-19 crisis and need help navigating Centrelink’s processes.

We’re now looking for a CLE & Communications Officer to roll out the CLE Program and develop and implement the Centre’s communications plan, building on the momentum of our social media COVID-19 information campaign. We are looking for someone with experience in designing and delivering community education as well as in running an information campaign using a wide range of social media platforms.

This is a great opportunity to join a team of committed people, and contribute to our work to raise awareness of the rights of socially and economically disadvantaged people to income support.

Selection criteria

  1. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including public speaking skills.
  2. Ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  3. Skills in time management and ability to manage competing priorities.
  4. Capacity to learn online platforms, for example zoom, for delivering CLE, and ability to use and record data in the Centre’s database CLASS.
  5. Experience in:
    1. Designing and delivering community education to a wide range of community organisations;
    2. Running an information campaign using a wide range of social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn; and
    3. Updating and maintaining websites.
  6. Knowledge of social security concepts and processes, or demonstrated capacity to rapidly acquire this knowledge, and the ability to clearly communicate complex information.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to achieving social justice.
