We’re looking for an Administration Officer based in our Surry Hills Office.

Welfare Rights Centre provides free legal information, advice, and representation to help vulnerable people in NSW navigate the social security system. We also collaborate with our peak organisation, Economic Justice Australia, to advocate for a robust social security system as the foundation for a fair, just, and inclusive society. Our work is important because accessing social security entitlements and challenging unfair debts helps alleviate financial hardship and prevents disadvantage.

Your role will be to assist the Centre Manager in the day to day running of the Welfare Rights Centre, implement and maintain systems for the efficient running of the Centre, and undertake reception duties.

You will report to the Centre Manager.

Selection criteria

A successful applicant will be selected depending on the degree to which they demonstrate the following:

Essential

  • Demonstrated capacity to implement and maintain administrative systems, including email, filing, computer, web and telecommunication systems.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative and meet deadlines.
  • High level computer literacy including proficiency in MS Office Suite with a focus on Word, Outlook and Excel.
  • Experience in case management or customer relationship (CRM) databases.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well in a small team.
  • Appropriate experience: At least 2 years’ experience in an administrative role.

AND

  • Experience volunteering or working in a community legal centre; OR
  • Experience volunteering or working in a legal setting; OR
  • Experience volunteering or working with socially and economically disadvantaged people and a demonstrated commitment to achieving social justice.

Desirable

  • Experience in Actionstep.
  • Experience with CiviCRM.
  • Experience in working with volunteers.
