Our Purpose

Western Chances empowers young people who are facing financial barriers to achieve their potential. We assist motivated young people in Melbourne’s west facing financial barriers to realise their potential by providing scholarships, opportunity programs and ongoing support. We have a strong track record of success and since first awarding scholarships in 2004, we have awarded over 10,000 scholarships and invested $9 in empowering over 3,750 young people.

About the Role

Western Chances is expanding.

For the first time, we are piloting our highly successful Scholarship Program in Geelong. During this exciting three-year Pilot Program, we will roll out our Scholarship Program to support talented young people facing financial barriers across the Greater Geelong region.

We are looking for a Program Coordinator who is up for the challenge of leading the implementation and growth of this exciting initiative.

Reporting to our Program Manager, this new role will work closely with the Western Chances team to deliver the Geelong Chances Pilot Program and empower talented young people across Geelong to achieve their potential.

You will be responsible for:

  • Administering the Geelong Chances Pilot Program including assessing scholarship applications and awarding scholarships to young people,
  • Implementing a plan of school engagement to grow Western Chances’ Scholarship Program in identified schools,
  • Developing a wide variety of relationships in schools and across the community to identify eligible young people and connect them to support.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A passion for empowering young people,
  • Relevant qualification or experience in teaching or education, community development or program delivery,
  • Proven ability to develop relationships with people from a range of organisations,
  • A problem-solving attitude and ability to prioritise your time to achieve outcomes,
  • Excellent communication skills, both interpersonal and written.
