Women’s and Girls’ Emergency Centre (WAGEC) is a feminist, grassroots organisation that supports women and families in crisis and advocates for social change in the community. We work in Redfern, inner City, inner west and southwest Sydney, on the lands of the Gadigal, Wangal and Dharug people of the Eora Nation.
Every night, we support 200 women and children impacted by homelessness, domestic violence and systemic disadvantage. Equally, we seek to address the underlying causes of gender based violence through primary prevention activities with communities that want to be a part of the global movement to end gender based violence in a generation.
The 'From Now' project is a new pilot that aims to support women who are impacted by incarceration. The project works across the justice, child protection and housing systems, providing safe accommodation to pregnant women and/or women with their children for 3-6 months. During this time, the women will have daily, intensive therapeutic support to address their immediate needs and long term goals. Programs will focus on living and parenting skills to develop tools that support their successful re-entry into the community.
The two Case Managers will report to the Project Lead and are based at our accommodation site in south west Sydney, with additional travel to other WAGEC sites and correctional facilities.
The Case Managers will provide direct support to women and will help to deliver therapeutic programs that support empowerment, increased skill development and begin the recovery journey from trauma.
These are full-time roles on an initial 18 mth contract, with the view to extend. Part-time hours (a minimum of 4 days per week) may be considered.
