The Victorian Trades Hall Council (VTHC) is looking for someone who wants to make a difference.

We are seeking to employ a Research Organiser to work in our Carlton office as part of our Politics and Research Team. The Research Organiser will be responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of VTHC policy objectives, preparing briefs for senior officials and assisting VTHC teams to deliver high quality campaigns.

This position can be either full time or part time with minimum three days per week.

DUTIES INCLUDE

At VTHC you will be part of a supportive and fast-paced team, where you will:

  • Draft and prepare government reports and submissions
  • Schedule and minute government and associated meetings
  • Prepare written and oral briefs for VTHC senior staff
  • Provide administrative support as needed

  • A passion for social justice and a demonstrated commitment to trade union values
  • An eagerness to work with unions, regional Trades and Labour Councils and key community allies
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Good interpersonal communication skills and an ability to build rapport with a variety of people
  • A demonstrated understanding of the political landscape in Victoria and parliamentary processes
  • A demonstrated capacity to work well with others in a team environment

DESIRABLE ATTRIBUTES

  • Previous experience working for trade unions and/or similar industrial bodies
  • Knowledge of key industrial policy areas in Victoria or experience working with government
  • Some knowledge of specific issues for workers from diverse backgrounds.
  • A relevant degree is desirable but not required

SALARY

The position is based at Trades Hall in Carlton, Victoria, and will report to the Secretary through the Research and Politics Lead Organiser. Attractive salary package ($68,000-$85,500 depending on experience), including a monthly RDO in recognition of occasional additional hours, and 12% superannuation.
