THE ROLE

The Finance and Operations Manager is responsible for the effective and efficient management of all aspects of finance and operations within the VNPA. The role will provide management and leadership in regards to all aspects of operational management including financial management, human resources, systems and IT, risk management and work health and safety.

The Finance and Operations Manager supervises a small team of professional staff including the Office Coordinator, Accountant and casual staff (as required).

The position of Finance & Operation Manager requires a motivated self starter and problem solver to oversee the growing finance and operation needs of the association. As a small organisation the position requires a hand’s on manager to assist in creating a strong organisation dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of nature in Victoria.

THE ORGANISATION

The Victorian National Parks Association (VNPA) is one of Victoria's most effective conservation groups. Established in 1952 to promote national parks, it has grown into a strong and respected advocate for nature conservation in Victoria, and has played a leading role in the development of Victoria’s nature reserve system and conservation policy.

The VNPA is an independent, non-profit, non-government, membership organization. VNPA educates the community and advocates for the protection of Victoria's special natural areas, flora and fauna, and for the proper management of National Parks and protected areas.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential Skills and Qualities:

  • Demonstrated experience including at least 5 years in a senior financial management role with a comprehensive knowledge of finance, IT, HR, governance, and operations
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline e.g. accounting, finance, economics.
  • Proficiency in computer software including office, accounting software, CRM databases, CMS and capacity to learn computer systems.
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage and lead staff
  • Excellent organisational ability and attention to detail, ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Empathy with and commitment to VNPA’s vision and mission;

Desirable Skills and Qualities:

  • Experience in the Not-for-profit sector in a similar role
  • Experience using Microsoft 365, MYOB, eTapestry, WordPress, MailChimp
  • Knowledge of national parks and/or conservation issues
