Victorian Mental Illness Awareness Council (VMIAC) is Victoria’s peak body for people who have a lived experience of mental health or emotional challenges. VMIAC is run by consumers, for consumers. VMIAC’s vision is a world where all mental health consumers stand proud, live a life with choices honoured, rights upheld, and these principles are embedded in all aspects of society.

VMIAC undertake individual, group and systemic advocacy and their work includes research and evaluation, education and training, information provision and resource development, as well as limited specialist support programs. VMIAC have a strong and continuous focus on engagement with members and informing and supporting them in becoming empowered and having their voices heard.

VMIAC is an Incorporated Association and is governed by a Committee of Management (COM).

Position overview

To provide proactive, timely and confidential executive administrative support to the CEO, Leadership Group and the Committee of Management (CoM) including diary management, organising meetings, travel and accommodation, preparing documents, reports, letters,submissions and related material.

The Executive Assistant is expected to develop and maintain effective administrative systems, communication and working relationships internally and with key external stakeholder organisations.

Key functions

Executive Support to CEO, Leadership group and Committee of Management

  • Ensures the efficient and effective delivery, coordination and management of secretariat functions that support the Chief Executive Officer, the Committee of Management, and The Executive Management Team.
  • Provides support across a range of organisational areas.

Teamwork

  • Demonstrates a commitment to quality, continuous improvement, occupational health and safety and risk management.

Key Selection Criteria (applicants to address within their application)

Essential Qualifications, experience, knowledge, and registration

  • Relevant education and/or experience in administration, business or management or a combination of life and work experiences, education, and training.
  • Lived and/or living experience of mental health or emotional distress and knowledge/experience of issues facing consumers.
  • Current Police Check and Working with Children Check
  • Prepared to travel for work purposes in metropolitan and rural/regional Victoria.
  • A current Victorian Driver’s License is preferred, but not essential.
  • High level skills with current Software Applications such as Zoom, Office 365 suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, OneNote, Teams and Adobe.

Special Conditions

Equipment

  • VMIAC is state-wide organisation and regional /rural travel may be required to support promotions of events and meetings with members, communities, and stakeholders.
  • Company vehicles are available to be booked for business purposes.
  • Use of company laptop and mobile phone as required.

References checks, probationary period

  • Preferred candidates are required to complete and/or provide Police and Working with Children checks prior to final confirmation and commencement of employment.
  • Referees are required and will be contacted for preferred applicants.
  • This role is subject to a probationary period of six months.
