About the Role:

The Student Support Worker will be part of a small team, which has been created to provide Free TAFE students key support in a range of areas. Primarily, the role is responsible for both the provision of career and course advisory services to prospective Free TAFE students, and being the first point of contact for critical support and key information related to welfare, finances, crisis, conflicts and complaints, health and wellbeing, and the provision and evaluation of appropriate support to free TAFE students experiencing a disability.

About the Person:

As a highly motivated and collaborative team member, you will have highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written and have very strong consultation and negotiation skills. We want someone who has a strong understanding of student welfare issues and has had much experience working with students from very diverse backgrounds in a sensitive and discretionary style. The ability to manage complex activities concurrently, and see them through to resolution is also critical.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Here is a snapshot of what you’ll be doing day to day:

  • Manage complex Free TAFE student inquiries referred from Student Advisors and VU Polytechnic teaching departments, using an individual case management approach
  • Assess Free TAFE student needs and facilitate Free TAFE student access to University services and resources appropriate to students’ educational and psychosocial needs, and facilitate referrals to external services as appropriate
  • Develop, deliver, evaluate and continuously improve proactive outreach programs to help Free TAFE students develop self-management skills and access group support programs
  • Provide regular feedback on trends in Free TAFE student experiences and behaviours and advise on proactive responses
