Policy Officer

Victorian Aboriginal Children and Young Peoples Alliance Ltd

ABOUT OUR ORGANISATION

The Victorian Aboriginal Children and Young Peoples Alliance (the Alliance) is the peak body for Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) dedicated to improving outcomes for Aboriginal children, young people, and their families. We work to influence policy, elevate the voices of Aboriginal children and young people, and ensure Aboriginal community-led approaches are central to decision-making.

The Alliance advocates for systemic change that reflects the strength, rights, and resilience of Aboriginal communities, upholding principles of self-determination, cultural safety, and Aboriginal-led solutions.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Policy Officer plays a key role in supporting the implementation, coordination, and monitoring of the Wungurilwil Gapgapduir Strategic Action Plan across the Victorian child and family services sector. This role supports the Alliance’s policy and advocacy efforts and works collaboratively with member ACCOs, the Victorian Child and Community Care Agency and government partners—particularly the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing (DFFH)—and sector stakeholders to ensure culturally appropriate, community-led implementation of the strategy.

ABOUT YOU

You are a values-driven professional with a strong commitment to advancing self-determination and improving outcomes for Aboriginal children, young people, and families. You bring a deep understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and communities, ideally grounded in lived experience or through working in or alongside Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs).

You are proactive, organised, and passionate about systemic change. You understand the importance of community-led approaches and are skilled in translating policy into action in ways that are culturally safe, meaningful, and impactful.

ADDITIONAL BENEFITS

We offer salary packaging, flexible work arrangements, including work from home and opportunities for professional development. We are a small, dedicated team who live and work across regional Victoria. We work directly with Aboriginal organisations to make a difference in their communities.
