The Victorian Aboriginal Children and Young Peoples Alliance (the Alliance) is the peak body for Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) dedicated to improving outcomes for Aboriginal children, young people, and their families. We work to influence policy, elevate the voices of Aboriginal children and young people, and ensure Aboriginal community-led approaches are central to decision-making.
The Alliance advocates for systemic change that reflects the strength, rights, and resilience of Aboriginal communities, upholding principles of self-determination, cultural safety, and Aboriginal-led solutions.
The Manager, Policy and Advocacy is a key leadership role responsible for shaping and advancing the policy and advocacy agenda of the Alliance. This role works closely with Alliance members, government stakeholders, and community partners to develop evidence-based policy positions, influence reform, and promote the rights and wellbeing of Aboriginal children and young people in Victoria.
The Manager will lead a small team to deliver high-impact advocacy strategies, policy submissions, and sector engagement to ensure that Aboriginal voices are central in shaping systems that affect families, children and young people.
You are a strategic and values-led professional with a deep commitment to Aboriginal self-determination and improving outcomes for Aboriginal children, young people, and families. You bring strong experience in policy development, advocacy, or system reform—ideally within child and family services, social justice, or Aboriginal affairs.
You are confident leading teams and working collaboratively with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs), government partners, and stakeholders to influence change.
You have excellent communication and analysis skills, with the ability to translate complex issues into compelling policy positions and advocacy strategies. Most importantly, you are driven by a genuine passion for community-led change and ensuring Aboriginal voices are at the heart of policy and systems reform.
We offer salary packaging, flexible work arrangements, including work from home and opportunities for professional development. We are a small, dedicated team who live and work across regional Victoria. We work directly with Aboriginal organisations to make a difference in their communities.
