About This Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced, proactive and energetic Senior Administration Coordinator capable of delivering exceptional administrative and business functions within the UQ Pro Bono Centre. The successful candidate will be able to anticipate, initiate and manage administrative activities and be adept at working both autonomously and as part of a small high-performing team. The role requires exceptional communication and organisational skills, an impeccable attention to detail and the ability to prioritise activities and tasks to meet deadlines.

Key responsibilities will include:

Management and Administration

  • Implementation of the Pro Bono Centre’s Strategic Plan (2022–2025) in consultation with the Director, Pro Bono Centre.
  • Liaison with external industry placement partners regarding student performance in LAWS5180 and implementation of clinical placement agreements.
  • Liaison with external international placement partners regarding potential placements and apply for New Colombo Plan grants to support placements where appropriate.
  • Liaison with external international partners regarding student performance in LAWS5233 and implementation of international placement agreements.
  • Coordination of roster projects for the Centre’s Rural, Remote and Regional projects.
  • Consultation with students regarding Pro Bono Centre activities.
  • Management of the Centre’s international partnerships including with the Supreme and National Courts of Papua New Guinea.
  • Engagement with industry (legal profession and especially the community legal sector) to pursue opportunities for pro bono, clinical legal education and outreach community legal education.
  • Performance of any other duties as directed by your supervisor.

Service and Engagement

  • Overseeing student involvement in Centre projects, including by assisting with drafting and editing engagement outputs.
  • Supporting the profile of the Centre, including by fostering the School’s relations with industry, government departments, professional bodies and the wider community.
  • Speaking at, and/or attending on behalf of the Centre, public engagements promoting student pro bono activities.
  • Contributing to national and international discussions relating to pro bono work by speaking at major conferences.
  • Performing any other duties as reasonably directed by your supervisor.

About You

  • Must hold a law degree and be admitted to practice as a legal practitioner in Australia.
  • Must possess knowledge of community law, public interest research and pro bono work in Queensland and Australia.
  • Must hold a strong commitment to social justice and pro bono work.
  • Must have experience in managing staff to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Must have experience in supervising and mentoring students to develop their research, writing and practical legal skills such as client interviewing and advocacy.
  • Must possess a high-level personal work ethic and an ability to prioritise one’s own workload, work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Must be able to establish collaborative relationships and to represent the Pro Bono Centre at a university and wider community level, including industry, government and professional bodies.
  • Must be able to exercise discretion, creativity and judgement.
  • Must be committed to upholding the University’s values, including possessing the outstanding personal qualities of openness, respectfulness and integrity.

What We Can Offer

This is a 0.8 FTE continuing position at HEW Level 7 reporting to the Director, UQ Pro Bono Centre.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $90,538 - $98,719 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $105,929 - $115,501 per annum.
