Reporting to the Senior Lawyer and in conjunction with the Disaster Discovery Team, you will:

  • provide support to other community legal centres and service providers
  • provide high quality generalist legal advice, assistance, duty lawyer services, ongoing casework, information and referrals to clients affected by the regional disasters
  • work in partnership with local service providers to deliver joined up and targeted, efficient and effective legal assistance services, including on outreach in Myrtleford, Mt Beauty and Corryong and other affected areas as required.
  • deliver both legal and non-legal services to flood affected people through the provision of secondary consultations, legal education/professional development and other partnership activities.

What You'll Bring to the Team

To be considered for this role, you will need to hold tertiary legal qualifications and be eligible for a practising certificate in Victoria. You will draw on your experience in advice and casework in the areas of family and generalist civil law (e.g. tenancy, fines, consumer, credit and debt, insurance etc) as well as family law and family violence (preferable, otherwise ability to quickly learn essential).

Critical to your success in this position will also be the ability to work collaboratively and to communicate effectively with ‘at risk' service users with complex needs. As many of our clients may have experienced past trauma and/or suffer from poor mental health and other vulnerabilities, a warm demeanour and the ability to practice empathy in a trauma informed way will be paramount.
