About the opportunity

The Matilda Centre for Research in Mental Health and Substance Use provides a world-first synergy of leading prevention, early intervention, treatment research and translation programs in substance use and mental disorders. The Matilda Centre undertakes research and brings together researchers currently working across disorder silos (substance use, depression, suicide, anxiety, exercise physiology, dietetics, chronic disease) to share skills, synergise data, and harness new technologies to develop and trial innovative prevention and early intervention programs for substance use and mental disorders.

The Faculty of Medicine and Health is looking for a Research Assistant to join The Matilda Centre. This role will be required to undertake a mixture of administrative and research-related tasks to support the treatment and translation program of research within the Matilda Centre. This includes maintaining project data, conducting analysis and writing reports, organising meetings, and executing communications and promotions activities.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • provide administrative project support, including maintaining and managing project data

  • analyse qualitative and quantitative data from project activities

  • assist with the preparation of reports, publications and presentations

  • conduct literature reviews, scope existing resources and critically summarise information

  • assist with communications and promotions activities

  • provide financial administrative support

  • organise meetings with stakeholders, take minutes and collate key themes

  • establish and maintain strong working relationships with the research team and other stakeholders

  • undertake other duties as requested by supervisor.

About you

  • Tertiary qualifications in Psychology, public health, or Behavioural or Social Sciences (Honours will be highly regarded) and/or a related field, or equivalent work experience

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated report writing skills

  • Demonstrated understanding of substance use and mental health issues in Australia

  • Previous experience with data analysis, interpretation and write up of results

  • Experience in a research-related environment, with a working knowledge of research and an interest in translating results for impact

  • Demonstrated project administrative experience and strong organisational skills, with ability to manage and prioritise workload and to meet deadlines

  • Experience engaging with diverse internal and external project stakeholders

  • Sound skills in Microsoft Office Suite and statistical packages

  • Ability to work both independently and within a research team environment.
